About the RoleThis is a new role within our team. Framestore’s Crowd Technical Directors are responsible for creating the motion of crowds, including animating and simulating tens of thousands of characters for high‑end visual effects films.
Responsibilities- Develop locomotion, motion and triggering behaviours to achieve diverse crowd looks.
- Utilise proprietary and off‑the‑shelf crowd software to deliver top‑quality results.
- Lead a global team of artists while staying on schedule and maintaining high standards.
- Lead a team with a strong work ethic and willingness to be involved in both development and shot execution.
- Ensure consistent communication with Production on schedules and deadlines.
- Collaborate with various departments within the crowd pipeline.
- Contribute to the development of tools and techniques to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Experience leading a team.
- Thorough knowledge of Houdini.
- Expertise in both KineFX and VEX.
- Creative problem‑solving skills.
- Appreciation of aesthetic and technical requirements.
- Good understanding of animation and eye for motion.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to be involved in both development and shoot execution.
- Ability to work as part of a team in a challenging, changeable and deadline‑oriented environment.
- Excellent organisation, communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise across departments.
- Familiarity with pipeline and workflow issues, especially between multiple packages.
- Adaptability and willingness to learn new processes, software and technical skills.
- Programming/scripting experience (Python and/or C++).
- Good understanding of particle systems.
- Experience in developing tools, scripts and plug‑ins to streamline workflow.
- Previous experience working with motion capture data.
