DNEG London is looking for an experienced Build Supervisor to support and lead our teams across the current slate of exciting shows. This contract in particular will involve a 3-6 month secondment to the DNEG Sydney office in a unique opportunity to be embedded within one of our global teams. More information regarding this opportunity will be provided throughout the recruitment process.
The Build Supervisor supervises and leads the technical and creative efforts of a team of artists towards the completion of assets. You will be communicating with the other departments to find efficient methods to create assets that meet the needs of the show, including ensuring the assets are ready for the VFX pipeline: shot preparation and rigging, that they will render resourcefully and in-line with our pipeline.
You will develop pipeline processes with the Head of Build and Pipeline team to improve operational efficiency for the department.
This is a people‑focussed position, where a key facet of your role will be leading and mentoring your team through technical and creative challenges, to ensure only the best quality assets are delivered by your team in all aspects of asset creation. You will lead by example and with on‑the‑spot guidance, as well as through planned training schemes implemented by you with our in‑house trainers, in order to meet the briefs set by the VFX Supervisor.
MustHave
- Minimum 8 years of high‑end feature film VFX experience.
- Good understanding of all stages and processes of VFX feature film production.
- Extensive experience using 3D software – preference in Maya, Mari, Zbrush, Nuke.
- Proven team leadership experience within a professional environment of 3D Artists.
- Broad range of CG experience and knowledge of a variety of assets, including props, characters, hard‑surface and more.
- Ability to oversee the completion of a whole asset with both visual and technical approaches.
- Critical eye for detail and strong visual abilities such as accurate perception of anatomy, form, scale and proportions.
- Ability and experience meeting demanding deadlines whilst retaining a high quality level of work
- Experience with rendering and problem solving.
- Previous experience with bidding, production scheduling, and briefing teams.
- Previous Surfacing and Grooming are a bonus.
- Previous experience managing a department.
- Organised, pro‑active and a self‑starter.
- A good teacher and team leader.
- Approachable and personable, with strong motivational qualities.
- Strong desire to solve problems.
- A positive, can‑do attitude.
- Successful at delegating tasks and managing a team.
- Keen to up skill and train those around you, also providing Artists with constructive feedback.
- Able to see the bigger picture of the Department and work with Heads of Department.
- Strong at communication, providing clear direction and realistic time frames for tasks.
- Adaptable to changing circumstances, with a willingness to learn new skills and techniques – including proprietary software.
- Calm under pressure and committed to meet production deadlines.
