An opportunity to use your health journalism experience to help a health think tank gain media coverage of its research findings, while expanding your own health knowledge and contacts.
What difference will you make?As a Trustee and Health Journalism Adviser you will be particularly well placed to influence our development as a health think tank – helping ensure our research findings reach a wider audience.
We seek to influence both policy and practice, with evidence cited by Parliamentary Committees, research partnerships with universities, and invitations to speak at conferences and events.
What are we looking for? As a Trustee- Enthusiasm for our guiding principle that prevention is better than cure.
- Ability to exercise good, independent judgement and work effectively as a board member.
- Willingness to bring energy, expertise and commitment to the role, and potentially broaden the diversity of thinking on our board.
- Commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: self‑lessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.
- At least 3 years’ experience of health journalism in the UK.
- Background or proven interest in health, medicine or science.
- A portfolio of health articles.
- A strong network of diverse health‑related contacts.
As a Health Journalism Adviser you will advise on:
- Which areas of research are likely to be of interest to the media and what aspects.
- Which media outlets and health journalists are most likely to be interested.
- How to communicate our research findings in media‑friendly ways.
- Potential research topics of interest to the media.
As a Trustee you will:
- Ensure we operate within our charitable remit: advancement of health and prevention of sickness.
- Review and approve our Annual Report and Accounts.
- Support and provide advice on our work.
- Attend virtual board meetings.
You will work alongside our eight current Trustees, small teams of graduate researchers, and our health research partners (six universities). We operate virtually, with meetings via Zoom to enable wide participation.
