Class 3 Registered Building Inspector Building Control
London Local Authority 6 month contract (potential for extension)

This position is flexible, and the hiring manager is open to part-time, full-time, candidates. Much of the paperwork can be completed from home, while site inspections will be on location.

We’re looking for an experienced Class 3 Registered Building Inspector to join a dedicated Building Control team within a London local authority. In this role you will report to the Head of Building Control, you’ll lead on complex projects, ensure compliance with Building Regulations, and help maintain the highest standards of structural and fire safety.

  • Corporate Membership of RICS, ICE or IStruct

    E (or equivalent).
  • Class 3 Registered Building Inspector status (mandatory).
  • Minimum 5 years’ senior-level building control experience handling complex projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Building Act 1984, Building Regulations 2010 (as amended), London Building Acts, Building Safety Act 2022, Approved Documents, and Safety of Sports Grounds legislation.
  • Experience dealing with dangerous structures, enforcement and court proceedings.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage complex and high-risk building control projects from inception to completion.
  • Provide expert technical advice on Building Regulations and associated legislation.
  • Support and develop a multi-skilled team, managing workloads and performance.
  • Deputise for the Head of Building Control when required.
  • Work closely with the Building Safety Regulator, Fire Service and other agencies to ensure compliance and occupant safety.
  • Participate in a 24/7 dangerous structures rota, making critical on-site decisions where life and structural safety are at risk.
  • Oversee enforcement action, including preparing cases and giving evidence in court.
  • Manage works in default and cost recovery processes.
  • Contribute to sports grounds safety under relevant legislation and the Green Guide.

  • Proficient in managing budgets, priorities and service delivery.
