This is a pivotal role within a dynamic project team, requiring a strategic thinker capable of navigating complex, high-value construction environments.
The ideal Senior Quantity Surveyor will have a proven track record within a large subcontractor or a Tier 1 Main Contractor. You should have extensive experience leading sizable projects from inception to final account, demonstrating a high level of commercial acumen and leadership.
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take full ownership of the commercial and contractual health of the project. You will act as a key advisor to the project leadership team, ensuring all commitments are met, risks are mitigated, and project value is strictly maximised.
Senior Quantity Surveyor
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and oversee all daily commercial and contractual operations, ensuring alignment with corporate financial objectives.
* Take primary responsibility for contract administration, including the strategic management of variations, claims, and change order logs.
* Lead negotiations for major subcontract packages to secure best value and robust commercial terms.
* Manage project budgets, detailed cost reporting (CVRs), and financial forecasting with a high degree of accuracy.
* Review and certify complex interim and final accounts, ensuring strict compliance with the Construction Contracts Act and project specifications.
* Lead pre-appointment meetings to define scope and implement FMC subcontract terms, proactively identifying and neutralising contractual risks.
* Strategically negotiate and settle final accounts, including the preparation and defence of claims for loss, expense, and extensions of time (EOT).
* Provide guidance and oversight to junior and assistant quantity surveyors within the project team.
Senior Quantity Surveyor Requirements:
* Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or a related field. Professional RICS membership (MRICS) is highly desirable.
* Minimum of 5–7+ years of quantity surveying experience, with a significant portion spent in a senior or lead capacity.
* Expert knowledge of standard forms of contract, specifically JCT and NEC4, with a focus on UK-specific regulations.
* Exceptional negotiation, conflict management, and report-writing skills.
* A results-oriented professional with a focus on process improvement and high-level commercial strategy.
