About the Role

Our client is a growing and well established public sector construction contractor seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team based in South Woodford. This is an excellent opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor looking to develop their career within a stable, long‑term public sector environment, offering clear career progression and salary growth over time.

Job Overview

The Quantity Surveyor will work closely with a Contracts Manager, taking responsibility for the commercial management of multiple live construction projects. Project values range from £25,000 to £3 million, with the role typically managing 2‑4 projects concurrently. The position offers a varied workload, long‑term security and the opportunity to progress.

Quantity Surveyor

Key Responsibilities
  • Managing all commercial and financial aspects of construction projects
  • Preparing cost plans, budgets and cash flow forecasts
  • Procuring, appointing and managing subcontractors
  • Valuing works, assessing variations and managing change control
  • Preparing interim valuations and agreeing final accounts
  • Monitoring project costs and producing accurate commercial reports
  • Supporting contract administration duties where required
  • Working closely with the Contracts Manager and site teams
  • Ensuring all commercial activities comply with public sector and contractual requirements
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years' experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within construction
  • Experience working for a main contractor and/or on public sector projects is desirable
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Strong commercial awareness and cost control skills
  • Good knowledge of standard forms of construction contracts
  • Quantity Surveying degree preferred but not essential
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and organisational skills
  • Full UK driving licence
