A welcoming and supportive nursery in Lambeth is seeking a confident and compassionate SEND Early Years Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a bright and articulate 4-year-old child with complex sensory needs.
The Role
In this role you will be the main 1 to 1 support for a child who is in their final year of nursery before starting school and is currently supported in a quieter, individual space. While highly able, the child experiences significant sensory aversion to peer interaction. The setting is working carefully and thoughtfully to support a gradual transition into shared learning and social interaction with other children.
This role would suit a strong graduate or experienced practitioner with a solid understanding of SEND, particularly sensory processing needs, who can provide consistent, calm, and responsive support during afternoon sessions.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide dedicated 1:1 support tailored to the child’s sensory and emotional needs
Support gradual and structured transitions towards peer interaction
Work collaboratively with the nursery team, SENCO, and the child’s family
Contribute to and support the development of the child’s EHCP, which is currently in progress
Spend part of each afternoon working in the main nursery room, providing respite time and wider classroom support
The Ideal Candidate Will:
Have a strong background or qualification in SEND / Early Years / Psychology / Education
Demonstrate excellent understanding of sensory needs and inclusive practice
Be patient, nurturing, and confident in supporting children with complex needs
Be reflective and keen to develop professionally within a supportive team
Role Details:
Part-time, afternoons only: 12:30pm – 4:30pm
4 – 5 afternoons per week, with flexibility depending on availability
Ongoing training and guidance provided by the SENCO
Opportunity to play a meaningful role in shaping long-term support for the child
The School
This Outstanding-rated nursery in Tulse Hill is well known for its nurturing, inclusive environment and its dedicated, friendly staff team. The school caters for children aged 2–4 years, providing a safe, stimulating setting where every child can thrive. The nursery’s experienced leadership team ensures that both staff and pupils feel valued and supported.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference during a crucial developmental stage, within a setting committed to improvement and inclusive practice
