Metals Trade Operator

A London-based steel trading business is seeking to hire a Metals Trade Operator to join its office, providing support to the trading and commercial teams across day‑to‑day trade execution, operations, and customer coordination. This role is critical to ensuring trades are executed efficiently, documentation is accurate, and customers and counter parties are supported throughout the full trade lifecycle.

The position offers hands‑on exposure to international steel and metals trading, logistics, and commercial decision‑making, with the opportunity to build strong market knowledge over time.

• Manage and maintain operational, shipping, and compliance documentation, ensuring accuracy, traceability, and secure record keeping
• Support trade execution by monitoring vessel movements, shipment schedules, and delivery timelines
• Act as a point of contact for operational queries from internal teams, customers, and suppliers
• Review and validate supplier and logistics invoices prior to payment
• Provide timely and proactive updates to customers on order status and shipment ETAs
• Prepare, issue, and administer sales contracts and assist with supplier contract reviews
• Support the finance function by providing accurate payment instructions and maintaining clear audit trails
• Develop an understanding of steel products, including prestressed wire and strands, as well as market dynamics and pricing trends
• Assist traders with market monitoring, negotiations, and relationship management activities

• Experience in trade support, operations, logistics, or commercial support within steel, metals, or commodity trading preferred
• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
• Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment
• Confident communicator with a customer‑focused, service‑oriented approach
• Commercially curious with a genuine interest in steel and metals markets
• Strong Excel skills and general systems proficiency
