Archaeology Field Technician II – WSP Canada, Southwestern Ontario (Burlington, Mississauga, Whitby, London, Ottawa, Thunder Bay)
Seasonal position for the 2026 field season, starting in Spring 2026 as weather permits. LiUNA will represent employees under a collective bargaining agreement.
The OpportunityJoin the WSP archaeology team to assist with Stage 2 surveys through Stage 4 excavations across Ontario. You will connect with a multidisciplinary team of marine biologists, geophysicists, and geotechnical engineers.
Responsibilities- Complete archaeological fieldwork under a Field Supervisor, including Stage 2 surveys (field walking and test pitting);
Stage 3 site‑specific assessments; and Stage 4 mitigations. - Work independently where required, maintaining clear communication with supervisors.
- Assist in collecting and maintaining detailed field notes.
- Assist with surveying and grid set‑up.
- Support field supervisors and other field technicians, providing mentorship as needed.
- Maintain high standards of ethical and professional behavior and maintain a “Safety First” focus.
- Work outdoors in a variety of weather and ground conditions.
- Willingly perform physically demanding tasks (e.g., shoveling, troweling, soil screening) and lift up to 40 lbs.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills to convey information, questions, and concerns.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to travel to out‑of‑town projects, including overnight stays.
- Valid Ontario driver’s licence and clean driver abstract.
- Knowledge of archaeological artifacts.
- Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or related field is an asset.
- At least 3 field seasons of archaeological experience in Ontario, including shovel testing and test unit excavation.
