Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada supports, educates, and funds research for over 55,000 Canadians living with a brain tumour. The foundation is committed to making a difference in the lives of those affected.
Volunteer Opportunity – Support Group ConvenorThe Support Group Convenor works with the Support Group Facilitator to run support group meetings, ensuring they run smoothly by handling all logistical aspects.
Responsibilities include:
- Organizing and preparing virtual meetings.
- Acting as a liaison between the group and its members.
- Attending monthly virtual meetings.
- Sending monthly reminder emails to group members.
- Providing updated membership listings to BTFC staff.
The volunteer will be supported by the Support Services Specialist, receive training, and participate in ongoing check‑ins.
Time Commitment5–6 hours per month (some groups may require more during the summer). A one‑year commitment is preferred, and attendance at a minimum of nine meetings per year is expected.
Qualifications- 18+ years of age and willing to undergo a vulnerable sector check.
- Strong computer, email, and administrative skills.
- Comfortable interacting with others via phone and email.
- Able to co‑facilitate meetings and, when necessary, substitute for the facilitator.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to maintain and report on attendance lists.
- Capable of working collaboratively as part of a team.
- Individuals who enjoy interacting with others and are not currently students.
The volunteer will receive training and orientation, and will be offered ongoing support from the organization.
LocationWinnipeg, Manitoba (remote or hybrid virtual meetings).
Additional InformationCriminal record check required. No child abuse registry check required.
