Laboratory Assistant

** About the Position:
** This position is responsible for performing simple and complex sample preparations and extractions, routine laboratory maintenance tasks and simple analyses.
** Specific Responsibilities
*** Sample disposal, assists analysts, Retrieve samples from storage, Store samples in sample cooler
* Weighing and traying samples under supervision
* Operate lab instrument/equipment such as pipettes, shakers, centrifuges, pH meters etc;
* Perform instrument/equipment calibration, maintenance and repair as required;
* Perform sample preparation – filtration, screening, extraction and digestion;
* Prepare all required reagents, standards, reference materials, etc;
* Carry out all required data processing (i.e. calculations, data review, data entry, archival, etc.);
* Carry out all required record-keeping & documentation;
* General laboratory clean-up and maintenance, monitor controlled equipment;
* Clean and maintain glassware and lab ware,
* Assist in sample flow and archiving as well as data archiving;
* Perform all required quality control procedures;
* Produce all tasks within specific turnaround times (TAT);
* Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
* Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
* Other duties as assigned.
** Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
*** Must be a careful and meticulous worker;
* Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel);
* Must be capable of working with minimal supervision;
* Must be well organised, and able to work independently as well as part of a team;
* Ability to work in a fast paced environment;
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to understand and carry out detailed instructions.
** Required Qualifications
*** High School Diploma or equivalent;
* Previous Lab experience, full training will be provided.
** Physical Demands
*** Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
* Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;
* Ability to stand for a full shift;
* You may be exposed to unpleasant odours;
* Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and may require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.

*** An estimated hourly pay of $20.52 CAD at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
