With a focus on service excellence and patient safety, principal responsibilities include:

  • Conduct comprehensive health assessments, including detailed histories and physical examinations, for patients undergoing stem cell transplant or cellular therapy.
  • Diagnose and manage a wide range of health problems related to hematology/oncology and stem cell transplant care within full scope.
  • Prescribe and manage medications, order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests, and initiate appropriate therapies within clinical privileges.
  • Provide direct clinical care, including acute management of complications related to stem cell transplant and cellular therapies.
  • Develop and implement educational systems for patients, families, and staff regarding transplant processes, side effects, and post-transplant care.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, pharmacists, social workers, and other allied health professionals to ensure coordinated, high-quality care.
  • Serve as a consultant and resource for nursing and medical staff in the area of stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, research, and educational activities related to the Blood and Marrow Transplant program.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all care provided and education delivered.
  • Mentor students and new staff and participate in ongoing professional development.

What you bring:

  • Successful completion of a Master's Degree in Nursing
  • Current registration in the extended class and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent related experience in an oncology environment
  • Current member of the Nurse Practitioner's Association of Ontario (NPAO) or Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO)
  • Mandatory Current Professional Liability Protection
  • CNA Certification in Oncology Preferred
  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP (C)
  • Demonstrated experience and leadership in clinical practice, education, program development and research
  • Expertise in functioning in an inter-disciplinary health care environment
  • Ability to establish effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues and therapeutic relationships with patients and families
  • Expertise in critical thinking, clinical problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution
  • Effective organizational, conceptual and leadership skills
  • Ability to promote evidence-based strategies and initiatives for Hematology Models of Care, and ability to work in partnership with relevant LHSC staff and physicians
  • Experience in/or understanding research, program development and evaluation
  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal relations and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Demonstrated excellence as a role model for clinical leadership
  • Demonstrated experience with clinical teaching in an academic environment
