Summary:

** Sun Life is looking for a qualified actuary to join our dynamic team of internal consultants. The Actuarial Consulting Group (ACG) provides actuarial expertise to our Corporate functions as well as Canadian business units including Insurance Solutions, Investment Solutions, Sun Life Health, and Group Retirement Services. The new Director will have the opportunity to have a direct impact on the success of the ACG and to help shape our processes so that we can continue to better serve our internal clients.

Reporting to the Assistant Vice-President, ACG, the successful candidate will initially support the Canadian Financial Risk Management team on the assignment described below for their first 18 months. After this initial assignment, they will lead and support a variety of short and long term actuarial initiatives and projects in the ACG, as well as manage and provide direction to qualified actuaries and actuarial students working in the ACG.

This role provides an excellent opportunity for an individual with strong leadership characteristics to help create solutions that directly drive the success of our clients and our business partners.
** Director, Financial Risk Management, SL Canada assignment summary (first 18 months):
** Supporting the Assistant Vice President, Risk Management (SL Canada), the incumbent in this assignment will be responsible for leading the execution of the SL Canada financial risk management process as it pertains to Capital Risk management.
As part of its broader responsibilities, this assignment is responsible for the efficient governance, controls and education related to processes in identifying, assessing, monitoring / reporting of financial risks within SL Canada business activities and ensuring management compliance to defined standards, policies and operating guidelines. The incumbent will work collaboratively with members from the Business Units (BU), ALM, Canadian Finance and Corporate Risk Management to create and reinforce a Capital Risk Management culture within SL Canada.

The goal is to improve BU and Sun Life Canada management decision making within a consistent risk / return framework through the use of best practices, education, decision-making tools and risk management context. The successful candidate will have the ability to assess financial risks and their impacts on Capital, help others understand such risks and to influence outcomes with senior levels within SL Canada and the SL Enterprise.

** Main Accountabilities:
*** Ensure awareness, understanding and implementation of the SL Canada Risk Appetite Operating Guidelines for financial risks by SL Canada management and ensure that management has implemented processes to ensure ongoing compliance with the Policy and Guidelines. Provide appropriate communication and education as required.
* Complete, review and monitor regular reporting including:
* Manage the Capital-at-Risk sensitivities production process during the quarter end, business planning, and strategic planning cycles, including movement analysis.
* Communicate results to senior management and other management committees.
* Coordinate sign-off on the SL Canada Capital-at-Risk (CaR) exposures and ensure that the associated methodology, assumptions and results are in compliance with established standards…
