A leading global mining and minerals company located in Goderich, Ontario is seeking a Structural Engineer to join their Engineering team. This is a fully onsite position supporting both underground and surface operations at the world’s largest underground salt mine. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.
The Structural Engineer will be responsible for assessing, designing, and implementing structural solutions for mine and plant infrastructure. This role plays a key part in ensuring the safety, reliability, and longevity of site assets while supporting process improvements and capital projects.
The Role
The selected candidate will perform structural evaluations, develop detailed designs, and lead civil and structural projects from concept through completion. They will collaborate closely with maintenance, operations, and other engineering disciplines to ensure projects are technically sound, compliant with standards, and aligned with operational needs.
This position reports directly to the Engineering and Capital Manager and will provide technical guidance to consultants, contractors, and junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct structural assessments of mine and plant infrastructure, identifying necessary repairs, modifications, or upgrades.
Design and prepare calculations for structural systems, including conveyors, storage facilities, transfer towers, and foundations.
Lead civil and structural improvement projects, managing scope, budget, and schedule from conception to completion.
Oversee consultant and contractor work to ensure compliance with engineering standards, codes, and safety regulations.
Develop and review technical drawings using AutoCAD and Solid Works, ensuring accuracy and alignment with design intent.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering;
Master’s degree considered an asset.
Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Solid Works, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong understanding of structural design principles, codes, and standards; experience in underground or mining environments preferred.
Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills, with the ability to work independently and lead project teams.
