Overview – Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Geotechnical / Geological Engineer to join our geotechnical engineering and dam engineering practices in Canada, to be based in Waterloo, Ontario
. This position is suited to a talented, highly motivated individual with a background in geotechnical / geological engineering (with a focus on dam engineering, tailings and mining infrastructure), who is interested in contributing to our innovative and challenging projects.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Task or project management, including planning and implementing investigation and remediation projects, budgeting and budget management, meeting project schedules, quality requirements, and client expectations (depending on experience).
- Designing, managing, and performing geotechnical, geoenvironmental, civil, mining, and/or geological engineering field investigations including drilling, instrumentation, and construction quality assurance.
- Dam safety reviews for both mining and water dams.
- Working with numerical modelling software for stability, seepage, and settlement/deformation analysis.
- Preparing and coordinating integration of design calculations, drawings, technical specifications, construction cost estimates, reports, and permit applications.
- Dam breach and run‑out assessments.
- Deformation modelling.
- Bachelor's degree in civil, geotechnical or geological engineering, or a related field (required).
- Advanced degree in a related field (preferred).
- Professional registration in Ontario (E.I.T./P.Eng./G.I.T./P.Geo.) (preferred).
- At least 5 years of directly relevant experience in geotechnical consulting related to tailings facilities, dam engineering, and other related infrastructure, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (required).
- Detailed understanding of National and ON Building Codes, regulations and guidelines including the Canadian Dam Association (CDA), Mining Association of Canada (MAC) and Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) (required).
- Familiarity with seismic design and liquefaction analysis (required).
- Familiarity with in‑situ instrumentation, satellite monitoring and remote sensing (preferred).
- Familiarity with Risk Informed Decision Making (RIDM).
- Experience with multidisciplinary project teams (required).
- Working experience with numerical modelling and design software packages.
- Ability to succeed in a fast‑paced consulting environment, handling multiple projects, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed (required).
- Current OSHA 40‑hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers (preferred).
- Field work and overnight travel may be required.
- Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, client‑driven drug and background testing may be required.
- Valid Canadian driver’s license and satisfactory driving record for business travel (required).
Below is the range that we in good faith believe is the potential compensation for this role at the time of this posting and is only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec’s total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.
Minimum Salary: $87,000 / Maximum Salary: $105,000 (Waterloo, ON)
