Before School Support – LTO – 10 hrs per week Keatsway

WRDSB has a current vacancy for Before and After School Support (B.A.S.S.) Long‑term occasional employees. B.A.S.S. employees will work alongside a Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE) to support play‑based programming for students in junior kindergarten to grade 6 who are registered in WRDSB’s Before and After school program to provide general student supervision.
Responsibilities- Follow the guidance of the DECE operating the extended day classroom.
- Support positive and responsive interactions among the children, parents, child care providers and staff.
- Encourage children to interact and communicate in a positive way and support their ability to self‑regulate.
- Support the children’s exploration, play and inquiry.
- Assist with child‑initiated and adult‑supported experiences.
- Provide a positive learning environment where each child’s learning and development is supported and inclusive of all children, including those with individualized plans.
- Support indoor and outdoor play, active play, rest and quiet time, considering the individual needs of the children receiving child care.
- Foster the engagement of and ongoing communication with parents about the program and their children.
- Follow licensing requirements under the Child Care and Early Years Act.
- Promote an anti‑oppressive, anti‑racist, and inclusive culture where all children feel seen, heard, respected, and have the support and resources they need to flourish.
- Support the health, safety, nutrition and well‑being of the children.
- Supervise and support children to ensure that they are healthy and safe by following Public Health, First Aid and Emergency procedures.
- Hold a minimum of a high school diploma, GED or equivalent level of educational attainment.
- Prior experience supervising and supporting children in a positive and safe manner.
- Valid Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED, or be ready, able, and willing to obtain this training as a condition of employment.
- Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) that is current within 5 years if currently employed with the WRDSB, or within 6 months for new employees.
- Complete Licensed child‑care staff record requirements, including Region of Waterloo Public Health Health Assessment.
- Provide applications and supporting documentation stating qualifications and experience, and proof of Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED in your portfolio.
- Provide a satisfactory Criminal Background Check including the Vulnerable Sector; receipt in Human Resources prior to the commencement of employment.
- Extended Day B.A.S.S. Ratio Employees
- First Aid with CPR Level C/AED (or pending).
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check current as per requirements.
- Licensed child‑care staff record completed and submitted.
