Before and After School Support (B.A.S.S.) – Long‑term occasional employees
Responsibilities- Follow the guidance of the Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE) operating the extended day classroom.
- Support positive and responsive interactions among the children, parents, child care providers and staff.
- Encourage children to interact and communicate positively and support their ability to self‑regulate.
- Support the children’s exploration, play and inquiry.
- Provide child‑initiated and adult‑supported experiences.
- Create positive learning environments inclusive of all children, including those with individualized plans.
- Support indoor and outdoor play, active play, rest and quiet time, and consider the individual needs of the children receiving child care.
- Foster engagement and ongoing communication with parents about the program and their children.
- Follow licensing requirements under the Child Care and Early Years Act.
- Create an anti‑oppressive, anti‑racist, and inclusive culture where all children feel seen, heard, respected, and have the support and resources they need to flourish.
- Support the health, safety, nutrition and well‑being of the children.
- Supervise and support children to ensure they are healthy and safe by following Public Health, First Aid and emergency procedures.
- Hold a minimum of a high school diploma, GED or equivalent level of educational attainment.
- Prior experience supervising and supporting children in a positive and safe manner.
- Valid Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED, or willingness to obtain this training as a condition of employment.
- Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) current within 5 years for current WRDSB employees, or current within 6 months for new employees.
- Completion of the Licensed child care staff record requirements, including Region of Waterloo Public Health health assessment.

Applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Background Check (including the Vulnerable Sector) and submit Social Insurance Number (SIN), date of birth, and proof of educational qualifications at the time of an offer of employment.
