Overview
Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) serves approximately 65,000 students in 123 schools. WRDSB is committed to creating learning environments that support the achievement and well‑being of all students through partnership with staff, parents, families, caregivers and communities.
Responsibilities- Follow the guidance of the Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE) operating the extended day classroom and support play‑based programming for students in junior kindergarten to grade 6.
- Support positive and responsive interactions among the children, parents, child care providers and staff, encouraging children to interact and communicate constructively and supporting their ability to self‑regulate.
- Promote children’s exploration, play and inquiry, including child‑initiated and adult‑supported experiences.
- Assist in creating and maintaining positive learning environments that are inclusive of all children, including those with individualized plans.
- Facilitate indoor and outdoor play, active play, rest and quiet time throughout the day, considering the individual needs of the children.
- Engage and communicate with parents about the program and their children’s progress.
- Follow licensing requirements under the Child Care and Early Years Act and produce an anti‑oppressive, anti‑racist, inclusive culture where all children feel seen, heard and supported.
- Ensure the health, safety, nutrition and well‑being of the children by following public health, first aid and emergency procedures.
- Supervise and support children to ensure they are healthy and safe.
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent educational attainment.
- Prior experience supervising and supporting children in a positive and safe manner.
- Valid Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED or readiness to obtain training.
- Current Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) valid within 5 years for existing WRDSB employees or within 6 months for new employees.
- Completed Licensed child care staff record requirements, including Region of Waterloo Public Health, Health Assessment applications and supporting documentation, and proof of Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED.
- Proof of satisfactory Criminal Background Check, including Vulnerable Sector, completed prior to commencement of employment.
