Summer programs provide children ages 4-12 the opportunity to improve self esteem, motor skills, creativity, and social skills through a variety of crafts, arts, and physical activities as well as excursions to local places of interest.

Reporting to a Playground Coordinator, the Senior Play leader position is responsible for leading and supervising participants aged 6‑12 at a specific playground program including communication, discipline, and planning activities. This casual position works as part of a team in a public facing fast paced environment ensuring programs are run efficiently to meet the needs of the participants while providing excellent customer service to City of London patrons and volunteers.

• Provide leadership to other Playleaders on site and oversee the activities at a particular program location(s) to ensure the care, safety and security of Playground participants during program hours.
• Plan and implement a varied recreational program involving crafts, active and quiet games, sports and special events for children 6-12 years of age, in accordance with Child and Youth Agenda priority areas.
• Responsible for maintenance of daily records of attendance, program activities, and safety checks.
• Maintain an inventory of program and first‑aid supplies.
• Ensure appropriate behaviour modification techniques are being used when supervising participants.
• Ensure that equipment, facilities and grounds are safe play areas for children.
• Primary contact when communicating with parents/caregivers of participants on a daily basis.
• Ensure all City of London policies and practices are adhered to.
• Work cooperatively with other program partners.
• Maintain daily communication with Playground Coordinator.
• Provide a final written evaluation of the program.
• Strong behaviour management is necessary.
• Experience working with campers to build their independence and social skills.
• Offer critical and timely feedback to ensure optimal camper safety and experience.
• Ensure high program standards and best practice for healthy development and play.
• Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and a positive and professional attitude when communicating with participants, parents, the public, and co-workers.
• Demonstrate commitment to anti‑racism, anti‑oppression, and human rights through practices and interactions with community partners, employees and individuals and support programs and initiatives that reflect this commitment.
• Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Health and Safety legislation and programs; actively promote a culture of safety.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Minimum two years’ experience working with children.
• Experience in a camp setting is an asset.
• Experience with children with exceptionalities and/or behavioural challenges an asset.
