Overview

Lompoc Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center, Lompoc, a Generations Healthcare facility, is looking for an experienced Behavioral Health Nurse Director to join our new Special Treatment Program.

Position Overview:

The Behavioral Health Nurse Director is responsible to oversee the Behavioral Health nursing staff and ensure the delivery of high-quality psychiatric care within our locked inpatient treatment program. In collaboration with the Behavioral Health team, the Behavioral Health Nurse Director fosters a culture of patient-centered nursing care and ensures that the delivery of that care meets all of the federal, state and local regulatory requirements, standards and guidelines for the facility.

Responsibilities
  • Clinical Oversight:
    Supervise nursing staff in providing safe, effective, and compassionate care to residents in a locked psychiatric setting.
  • Staff Management:
    Recruit, train, and mentor nursing staff, ensuring compliance with best practices and organizational policies. Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing professional development.
  • Resident Care Coordination:
    Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized treatment plans for residents, ensuring that their physical and mental health needs are met.
  • Policy Implementation:
    Develop and enforce nursing protocols and procedures in accordance with state regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Crisis Management:
    Lead and participate in crisis intervention and de-escalation efforts, ensuring a safe environment for both staff and residents.
  • Quality Assurance:
    Monitor patient care outcomes and participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient satisfaction.
  • Documentation:
    Ensure accurate and timely documentation of resident care activities, including assessments, interventions, and evaluations, in compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
  • Education and Training:
    Provide ongoing training and education to nursing staff on psychiatric best practices, medication management, and therapeutic communication.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of psychiatric nursing principles, mental health disorders, and treatment modalities.
  • Able to manage and provide redirection of potential behaviors of residents in a safe and effective manner.
  • Possesses superior interpersonal, human relations, and behavior management skills.
  • Proficient in crisis intervention and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to quickly build rapport and trust with residents.
  • Works effectively in a collaborative setting.
  • Possesses excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Able to work well under pressure, problem solve, and meet deadlines.
  • Able to remain flexible and adapt to changing demands.
  • Able to communicate with residents, staff, customers and vendors in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and use good judgment.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to professional growth and lifelong learning.
Education and Experience
  • Current and unencumbered Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in CA
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in field of nursing preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of psychiatric nursing experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role preferred.
  • Basic Life Support Certification required.
  • Experience working with adults with developmental disabilities and/or moderate to severe mental illness preferred
