Overview

Instructional Assistant, Public Safety/EMS-Paramedic Program. Under general supervision of appropriate administrator, assists faculty in the preparation and delivery of instruction and skills training to students enrolled within a designated academic area of the Public Safety Training Department. Values and promotes the mission and vision of the college.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of instruction and skills training.
  • Prepare and assemble materials/equipment/props for presentations and other instructional activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of classroom materials as needed.
  • Monitor the safe and proper use of equipment, tools, and devices.
  • Coordinate program inventory, storage, distribution, and maintenance of discipline related equipment; provide technical assistance and recommend specifications for equipment and instructional material purchases.
  • Lead drill and ceremony activities/formations/inspections.
  • Provide assistance to students and instructors in the preparation of props and equipment for campus tours, visitations, and outreach events.
  • Work as a collaborative and contributing member of a professional team; serve as a role model for students; exemplify and emphasize the values, ethics, and high standards required of public safety personnel.
  • Ensure all clinical documentation for students are correct, i.e. drug tests, background checks, vaccination records, and CPR cards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

This is a full-time, 37-hour, classified, 10-month position.

Work Schedule

Monday - Thursday, 8:00 a.m.

- 4:30 p.m. and Friday, 8:00 a.m.

- 4:00 p.m.

Requirements

Education and Experience

Equivalent to an associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public safety technology or a related field OR graduation from high school or its equivalent AND two years of full-time paid experience within a public safety agency.

Licenses and Certifications
  • Shall complete required safety course as outlined in the Injury Illness Prevention Plan.
  • California EMT License or National Registry Card for EMT is required.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Card, instructor card is preferred.
  • Valid Class C driver’s license for the ability to qualify for District insurance for operation of district motor vehicles.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of training techniques and instructional methodologies;
  • Requirements and regulations of governing and certifying agencies;
  • Principles and practices of effective leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to Learn, interpret and apply district, program, and courses rules and regulations;
  • Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action;
  • Maintain accurate and complete records;
  • Utilize computer equipment and technology for record keeping and instructional purposes;
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Working Conditions

Duties will be performed in an indoor and outdoor environment. Operating motorized equipment and vehicles. The incumbent will experience interruptions while performing normal duties during the regular workday. The incumbent will have contact, in person, by email, by video conferencing, or on the telephone with staff and the general public.

Physical Demands

Typically may stand or sit for extended periods of time. Operates a computer. Communicates over the telephone, by email, and in person. Regularly lifts, carries and/or moves objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Special Qualification

Evidence of a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and to staff and students with disabilities.
