Job Summary
The Sonographer 1-Echocardiography is a licensed sonographer working under the direct supervision of a credentialed staff Sonographer Echocardiography or Cardiologist. Performs designated direct and indirect age-specific and developmentally appropriate qualify patient-centered care. Prepares the patients, equipment, and supplies prior to exams. Performs the requested cardiac echocardiography examinations as prescribed in protocol. Utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize customer service in a manner that supports excellence in safe patient care and professionalism.
Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Performs other duties as needed.
Successful completion of a CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited cardiac ultrasound program. One year of direct echocardiography experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills- Able to read, write legibly, speak in English with professional quality; use computer, printer, fax, software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities.
- Able to communicate in English, relate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach and collaborate; accept direction.
- Able to communicate effectively in English, in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; perform basic math function; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information; pay close attention to detail.
- Uses independent judgment and initiative. Ability to hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with workplace/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to the position; discern temperature variances through touch.
Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) with American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in appropriate sub-specialty of department placement (adult echocardiology or pediatric echocardiology) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) with Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) credentialing board in appropriate sub-specialty of department placement (adult echocardiology or pediatric echocardiology) required. Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
