About Logansport State Hospital:
Logansport State Hospital is a state-operated inpatient psychiatric hospital for adults with mental illness. Using an interdisciplinary approach and evidence-based programming, we promote recovery and the return of the individual to the community.
Role Overview
:
This nurse practitioner's role is to provide primary care in a psychiatric inpatient setting.

A Day in the Life:The essential functions of this role include:
- Perform patient health history, physical exams, and establish diagnosis.
- Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic studies.
- Perform invasive procedures and therapeutic/corrective measures.
- Refer patients to appropriate healthcare providers.
- Prescribe medication and treatment within practice guidelines.
- Provide initial emergency care such as CPR and alert appropriate emergency providers.
- Collaborate with a variety of healthcare professionals for consultation.
- Lead and direct nursing staff in designing, coordinating, and evaluating research to improve clinical practice and healthcare delivery.
- Oversee and participate in quality research assurance projects.
- Develop educational programs tailored to patients' health problems, functioning levels, emotional needs, and characteristics.
- Maintain accurate records to reflect and be accountable for clinical decisions and actions.

This position is exempt from overtime pay. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours per pay period without additional compensation but must report a minimum of 75 hours to receive their base salary.
What You'll Need for Success:Applicants must meet these requirements:
- Current Nurse Practitioner license from Indiana.
- Valid DEA and CSR registration specific to Indiana.
- Ability to apply conceptual, theory-based knowledge to manage patient care.
- Knowledge of professional nursing principles for inpatient care.
- Understanding of psychology related to caring for mentally disabled patients.
- High skill level in patient care and emergency response.
- Effective communication skills regarding medical procedures and patient conditions.
- Ability to develop nursing care plans and guide staff nurses.
- Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
