Logansport State Hospital

Logansport State Hospital is a state-operated inpatient psychiatric hospital for adults with mental illness. Using an interdisciplinary approach and evidence-based programming, we promote recovery and return of the individual to the community.

Salary Statement:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $45,422.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:

Program Design & Evaluation

  • Plan, formulate, coordinate, and implement screening process and program curriculum to address specific needs of transitional program clients.
  • Make changes and adjustments to programs, as necessary, to maximize the effectiveness of services.
  • Prepare and update the transitional care procedure manual.

Administrative Procedures & Program Support

  • Conduct administrative meetings with transitional care specialists to discuss individual treatment problems and to present new methods and techniques of clients’ evaluation and treatment.
  • Write procedures for funding and continuing programs, expand programs, and assist in overall budget for the unit/program.

Client Support & Engagement

  • Communicate and coordinate with referring treatment teams, manage care provider staff and families regarding program needs, client needs and discharge planning.
  • Escort and/or transport clients to field trips (both on and off grounds), daily living skills activities, appointments, etc.
  • As appropriate, provide motivational techniques, counseling and teaching activity of daily living skills as prescribed in the individual treatment plan.

Behavioral & Crisis Management

  • Assist in managing the aggressive behavior of clients.
  • Resolve problems and informal complaints of clients and staff.
  • Ensure clients’ progress is documented.

Talent Development & Performance Management

  • Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities for professional development.
  • Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate employee performance to ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

What You’ll Need for Success:

Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:

Displaying Technical Expertise

  • Specialized knowledge of principles and practices of psychiatric rehabilitation, especially relating to serious and persistent mental illness.
  • Specialized knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies regarding the outplacement of clients.
  • Specialized knowledge of philosophy of interdisciplinary treatment concept, management techniques and Division of Mental Health rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Specialized knowledge of the appropriate techniques and methodologies used in recognizing behaviors in clients that may indicate the client requires special assistance to prevent injury to themselves or others, and ability to take appropriate action.

Delivering High Quality Work and Managing Time

  • Ability to effectively assess clients’ needs and to assess and document their progress as well as amend their treatment program appropriately.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and counsel with clients, staff, families and community liaisons.
  • Be willing to travel with reasonable accommodation.

Using Computers and Technology

  • Ability to prepare detailed reports, manuals and budget recommendations.
  • Ability to effectively document progress of clients and program.
