Job Overview

This position is focused on day‑to‑day non‑clinical pharmacy operations, ensuring efficient workflow, a positive patient experience, and compliance with all relevant laws and company policies. The role serves as a full‑time certified pharmacy technician working under the supervision of a pharmacist.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Supervise and lead pharmacy technicians and pharmacy cashiers; manage scheduling, training, coaching, and performance management, including discipline and termination decisions.
  • Assist the pharmacist in patient care activities such as registration, prescription data entry, medication preparation, counting, and verification.
  • Collaborate in health services offerings (vaccines, health screenings) where allowed by law.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, state and federal regulations, and Good Faith Dispensing guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate processing of insurance claims, resolve customer issues, and conduct third‑party audit participation.
  • Monitor and support pharmacy financials, operational quality, and customer service with store and pharmacy managers.
  • Maintain and apply knowledge of pharmacy asset protection techniques; support conflict and security monitoring.
Customer Experience
  • Engage customers and patients; greet them and offer assistance with products and services.
  • Resolve customer complaints and respond to requests in a timely manner, answering non‑clinical questions to ensure a positive experience.
  • Develop strong customer relationships by anticipating needs and proactively offering services.
Operations
  • Assist the pharmacist in medication preparation, counting, and verification as allowed by law.
  • Delegate, direct, and assign non‑clinical work in the pharmacy; ensure timely completion and hold others accountable.
  • Prepare and file required reports and records for the company and government agencies.
  • Coordinate and organize daily pharmacy schedule; recommend allocation of pharmacy hours.
  • Manage inventory preparation and support technology/process roll‑outs.
  • Ensure pharmacy cleanliness, orderliness, and adequate supply levels.
  • Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policy during all prescription‑dispensing activities.
  • Communicate prescription errors to the pharmacist and follow company procedures.
People & Performance Management
  • Lead performance management of technicians; recommend discipline and termination when necessary.
  • Hire, onboard, train, and schedule technicians; monitor training completion.
  • Identify knowledge gaps and provide hands‑on training or learning modules.
  • Ensure all pharmacists and team members maintain active licensure, registration, and certifications.
  • Follow company policy for recruitment, record retention, and training.
Training & Personal Development
  • Maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program or state‑required certification.
  • Update knowledge and skills related to pharmacy and healthcare.
  • Complete necessary certifications, education credits, and company e‑modules.
  • Seek professional development through self‑monitoring and mentorship from the Healthcare Supervisor.
Communication
  • Relay messages from support center or key emails to the pharmacy team.
  • Participate in store/pharmacy meetings, including brief meetings and weekly check‑ins with the Store Manager.
Basic Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico).
  • One year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital setting.
  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire (certain locations exempt).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous people management/leadership experience.
  • Previous experience at Walgreens with an “Exceeding Expectation” rating on the last performance evaluation.
