Registered Nurse - Ward 7

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board

Closing date is 15 January 2026

An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic, motivated, and experienced Registered Band 5 Nurses to join the team within our newly reconfigured high care ward on a 9 months fixed term/secondment basis to cover maternity leave. The role includes caring for patients within PACU, a High Care Head and Neck Bay, and nine step-down beds within the ward. This will allow an enhanced level of care for patients that require complex head and neck surgery, including patients with complex tracheostomies and laryngectomies.

Cohorting these patients to predominantly one high care area, co-located with the Critical Care Unit, will improve patient care and outcomes, providing a consistent team of suitably skilled professionals to ensure continuity of care in a suitable environment.

You will be joining a team of dedicated nursing staff who will provide you with all the support you will need to flourish and further develop your knowledge and skills. A Training Programme will be provided for successful candidates.

We have a structured team base ethos where we regularly meet, and we also hold specific development days underpinned with regular personal appraisals and a development plan. We welcome all applications including part time. All posts are rotational between day and night shifts.

If you are interested in applying for it as a secondment, please obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying.

Main duties of the job

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This does not mean essential; while the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn't 'fluency', just speaking & listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.

For more information, see ‘Welsh Language Guidance’ in the documents at the bottom.

We are a welcoming team of nurses and doctors who work well as a team. We also have a close link with the multi‑disciplinary team involved in caring for our patients. We will ensure that you are supported in the care of head and neck patients and offer an excellent opportunity to learn new skills with our support and guidance.

Staff will be required to be well organised and have time management skills and the ability to work as part of a team or on their own initiative with high standards. There will be opportunities for internal development as the University Health Board has a dedicated training and development department offering a wide range of in‑house courses. We also have close links with the University of Glamorgan to support your ongoing professional development, which you will be required to demonstrate as part of revalidation.
