Overview
Hywel Dda University Health Board has an exciting opportunity for a full‑time (part‑time hours can be considered) Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join the Flying Start team in Carmarthenshire. Flying Start is part of the Welsh Government’s early years programme that provides additional support services for children under 4 and their families living in disadvantaged areas of Wales. The SLT will work alongside Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists and Assistants to deliver services to children with speech, language and communication needs, and their families.
The team will also work with all families, carers and Early Years staff in the Flying Start area to support the development of speech, language and communication in all children. You will be part of the wider Hywel Dda Health Board’s team of Speech & Language Therapists working across the Board.
This role will include:
- Contributing to service development, research and audit.
- Direct assessment and intervention for children and young people accessing the Speech and Language Therapy Department.
- Developing and implementing training packages for other professionals.
- Liaising with key professionals across the Flying Start and Carmarthenshire footprint.
- Representing the Health Board at local and regional events.
- Co‑operating closely with local authority and nursery settings to network with education and health staff and support innovative service delivery options.
Previous experience and knowledge of working with young children and their families and carers is essential. Successful applicants will need to be creative, enthusiastic and flexible, with a good range of relevant experience as a paediatric Speech and Language Therapist. Ideal candidates will also have experience at the preventative, public health level.
