We are looking for enthusiastic and committed Assistant Psychologists who have excellent interpersonal skills and experience of working with people.

You will assist in the provision of a psychological service to clients within the speciality under the direction of the supervising clinical psychologist.

Main duties of the job

Under supervision, the post-holders will assist in providing psychological service to clients within the specialty and undertake assessments of clients and implement programmes of care or intervention following guidance from the supervising clinical psychologist.

The posts will be attached to qualified clinical psychologists, who will provide supervision and clinical oversight.

The posts will also involve supporting service evaluations, audits, and projects. You will be expected to contribute to multi-disciplinary team meetings and other meetings as appropriate. There will also be opportunities to learn skills within the posts.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post;

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Good Honours Degree in Psychology or its equivalent for those trained overseas. Eligibility for Graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
  • Eligibility for Graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.
  • Some knowledge and understanding of the client group with whom the post holder will be working.
  • Undergraduate level knowledge of psychology including some knowledge of lifespan developmental psychology and models of psychopathology.
  • Undergraduate level knowledge of research design and methodology.
  • Attendance at skills development courses or training
Experience
  • To have sound knowledge and experience of research and evalution, able to undertake data collection and analysis of clinical work, using appropriate IT and statistical programmes
  • Experience of undertaking therapeutic work or involvement in developmental assessments.
  • Experience of working with children, young people and their families within more than one clinical social care or educational setting.
Aptitude and Abilities
  • Ability to use interpersonal and communication skills to convey and receive sensitive information effectively, requiring empathy and reassurance, and the ability to overcome barriers to understanding.
  • Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary settings under supervision.
  • The ability to consider a range of facts while assessing clients, following guidelines given by the supervisor.
  • Ability to work independently, reliably and consistently with work agreed and managed at regular intervals.
  • Ability to manipulate test materials, make observations and record data with a high need for accuracy.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • Ability to speak Welsh
