Livonia Public Schools employs approximately 1,900 staff members, serving approximately 13,300 students pre‑K – post secondary. There are 15 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 3 high schools, 1 career technical center, 1 early childhood center, and 1 vocational and transition center in the school district. The annual budget for Livonia Public Schools is $175 million, with a state funding of $9,608 per pupil.

• Daily cleaning and upkeep of assigned building sections.
• Completion of various maintenance tasks.

• Must be able to bend, twist, push, pull, sit, and stand for long periods of time.
• Required to have the ability to push and/or lift up to and including 50 pounds, such as boxes, bags, equipment, etc.
• Dusting, sweeping, mopping, cleaning glass, maintaining soap, hand towels, and toilet paper dispensers.
• Climbing ladders to access rooftops, change lighting fixtures, ceiling panels, and painting.
• Crouching and maneuvering through utility tunnels.
• Lifting and securing lunch tables.
• Collecting, handling, and disposing of trash inside and outside.
• Setting up and breaking down chairs, tables, risers, and other equipment for events and activities.
• Performing outdoor grounds maintenance, including snow removal and lawn care.
• Operating commercial equipment such as:
  • Tractors
  • Snow throwers
  • Weed whips
• Using floor care equipment, including:
  • Riding automatic scrubbers.
  • Manual swing buffers.
• Loading and unloading supply shipments.
• Transporting stock and supplies throughout the facility.
• Moving furniture in and out of rooms and across the building.
• Other duties as assigned by the principal or supervisor.

• Custodians are assigned specific sections of the building for daily/nightly cleaning and maintenance.

• Identifying spills, damage, or safety hazards in classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and cafeterias.
• Ensuring proper sanitation in high‑contact areas (e.g., desks, doorknobs, water fountains).
• Following district‑specific cleaning protocols, especially during flu season or outbreaks.
