Job OverviewRole: The Registered Nurse (RN) organizes and administers individualized age-specific professional care to patients within an assigned unit of the hospital in support of medical care. Practices in accordance with applicable standards and regulations. Participates in patient teaching and discharge planning, unit Performance Improvement activities, and discharge planning with written teaching/discharge plans for patients as needed.
QualificationsRequired:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Successful completion of all Orientation Programs
Preferred:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Certifications and Licenses
Required:
- Active NJ RN License or Multistate RN License with NJ Endorsement
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association
- Part-Time
- Days
- 12.5 Hr Shifts
- 25 Hr work week
- Every other weekend is required
- Schedule during the week will vary depending on department needs
- Appropriately delegates but retains ultimately responsible
- Assumes charge nurse functions as delegated by Nurse Manager, including assessing staffing needs, organizing and delegating work assignments based on patient acuity and staff skill levels
- Completes daily patient classification according to facility policy
- Completes unit based competencies as per policy
- Attends competency day and completes required competencies
- Remains knowledgeable on current nursing policies and procedures
- Complies with Medication Reconciliation Policy and unit/department scheduling guidelines; delivers individualized patient care per standards
- Demonstrates positive guest relations and orients patient and family to the nursing unit
- Takes measures to ensure patient satisfaction and accessibility of patient representatives
- Reports patient/family problems in a timely manner
- Demonstrates phlebotomy proficiency per policy
- Understands blood administration policies and procedures
- Assesses and adjusts care based on patient needs and plan of care
- Develops and revises plan of care for assigned patients
- Identifies education needs and provides education to patient and family
- Uses growth and development principles for age-specific care
- Initiates IVs and maintains IV sites; documents IV care
- Participates in continuous quality improvement activities
- Maintains complete, accurate documentation of patient status and interventions
- Documents medications per policy; acts as patient advocate ensuring safety
- Uses good nursing judgment; protects privacy and confidentiality; demonstrates tact and compassion
- Activates chain of command when appropriate
- Recognizes and responds to pain management therapy complications; understands code cart procedures
- Transmits patient information via SBAR for hand-offs
- Assesses pain management needs and provides appropriate treatment
- Utilizes resources for initial and ongoing patient assessment; reassesses at transfer and discharge
- Participates in ongoing education
- Demonstrates proficiency in care of patients on mechanical ventilation and weaning support; assists with intubation and extubation
- Care for telemetry patients and related equipment (electrode placement, arrhythmia interpretation, code care)
- Chest tube management, including setup, drainage, and dressing
- Airway management, suctioning, ABG values, oxygen therapy, and tracheostomy care
