Pay Range: $47.85 - $76.27 per hour
Job Overview: The Registered Nurse (RN) organizes and administers individualized age-specific professional care to patients within an assigned unit of the hospital in support of medical care. Supports the philosophy, objectives and the mission and vision of Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center and the Department of Nursing. Practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, American Nurses Association Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, Department of Health Regulations, TJC requirements and other regulatory agencies.
Participates in patient teaching and discharge planning. Participates in unit Performance Improvement evaluation activities. Actively participate in discharge planning and, upon discharge, ensures a written teaching/discharge plan has been developed for assigned patients concerning disease process, complications, medications, diet physical activity and self-care needs.
Required:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Successful completion of all Orientation Programs
Preferred:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Certifications and Licenses
Required:
- Active NJ RN License or Multistate RN License with NJ Endorsement
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association
Scheduling Requirements:
- Full-Time
- Days
- 12.5 Hr Shifts
- 37.5 Hr work week
- Every other weekend is required
- Schedule during the week will vary depending on department needs
Essential Functions:
- Appropriately delegates but retains ultimately responsible
- Assumes charge nurse functions as delegated by Nurse Manager, including assessing staffing needs, organizing and delegating work assignments based on patient acuity and individual staff skill levels
- Completes daily patient classification according to facility policy
- Completes unit-based competencies as per JCAHO requirements and hospital policy
- Attends competency day and completed all required competencies in a satisfactory manner
- Remains knowledgeable on all current nursing policies and procedures
- Delivers individualized patient care consistent with established standards of care, policies and procedures and other regulatory standards
- Demonstrates positive guest relations by introducing self to patient and family
- Orients patient and family to the nursing unit
- Ensures patient satisfaction and coordinates with patient representative
- Reports patient/family problems to the nurse manager or her designee in a timely manner
- Demonstrates proficiency of phlebotomy sticks and related policies
- Adheres to blood administration policies and procedures
- Assesses and adjusts care based on patient problems and outcomes
- Plans and revises care for assigned patients based on age, nursing intervention, and outcomes
- Identifies patient/significant other education needs and provides education using appropriate modalities
- Considers age-specific needs in treatment and care
- Initiates IV sticks, maintains IV sites and monitors IV fluids
- Provides IV care and documents per policies
- Participates in continuous interdisciplinary quality improvement
- Maintains complete, accurate documentation of patient status and interventions
- Documents medications per nursing policy
- Maintains patient advocacy and safety
- Uses good nursing judgment and maintains privacy and confidentiality
- Activates chain of command when appropriate
- Recognizes signs of complications of Pain Management Therapies and intervenes appropriately
- Understands code cart procedures and replacements
- Transmits relevant patient information via SBAR during hand-offs
- Assesses pain management needs and provides appropriate treatment
- Utilizes resources in initial patient assessment and reassessment at transfers and discharge
- Participates in ongoing education as required
- Demonstrates proficiency in care of patients on mechanical vents and assists with weaning
- Assists with intubation and extubation
- Demonstrates proficiency in Telemetry care and related equipment
- Demonstrates proper chest tube management and wound care
- Demonstrates understanding of airway management, suctioning, ABG values, oxygen delivery, and trach care
