Pay Range: $26.00 - $33.50 per hour
Assumes responsibility for assisting in the care of patients and endoscopic equipment. Functions as a member of the health care team, taking direction and guidance from Registered Nurse. All care is provided in compliance with department policy/procedure and Standards of Care. Participates in staff, patient and/or family education to a degree consistent with personal knowledge base. Participates in unit Quality Improvement activities, staff meetings, and huddles.
Assumes responsibility for proper disinfection and processing of endoscopes and accessories. Prepares accessories for sterilization in SPD. In control of all scope repairs. Assists in procedures under the direct supervision of the RN.
Required:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Successful orientation in GI Lab.
Preferred:
- Previous health care experience preferred; prior endoscopy experience or central sterile processing experience.
- Training in CPR within one year. Goal - certification as a GI associate. Successful completion of all Orientation Programs.
- 8AM-4PM
- Mon-Fri
- Weekends on call are optional
- Adheres to assigned breaks/meal times and returns within the proper time.
- Adheres to Employee Code of Conduct.
- Assists MD and RN in procedures in endoscopy room: EGD, Colonoscopy, ERCP, EUS, Peg Tube, stent placements.
- Assists with maintaining procedure stats for the unit.
- Checks supplies and stocks daily items. Unloads new items when delivered to unit.
- Follows manufacturers recommendations in care and handling of all equipment and scopes.
- Leak tests all scopes prior to washing. Mechanically disinfects and processes scopes according to departmental policies and manufacturers recommendations. Maintains a daily log as processed scopes.
- Maintains a neat unit, processing room, storage room. Orders and stocks linen cart at beginning of each shift. Makes up and labels all disinfectants with expiration dates. Tests Glutaraldehyde daily.
- Maintains neat procedure rooms and Recovery area. Removes unused equipment and clutter, strips stretchers after use, and replaces linen. Places soiled linen into hampers.
- Provides nourishment to patients in Recovery Area. Assists ambulatory patients to bathroom. Assists with undressing/dressing patients.
