Job Overview:Function as primary administrative contact between other departments and the Clinical Engineering Department. Develop, direct, organize, and manage overall operations and distribution of resources (staffing, budgets, and outside vendor services) of the clinical engineering equipment support services program. Review, audit, and participate in decision support activities related to problem diagnosis, repair, preventive maintenance, and quality assurance of patient care and other potential equipment related to medical equipment.
Participate in the development of annual goals and objectives related to supporting the growth and development of services in response to the equipment support needs of the organization.
Responsible for the execution of department/organizational goals, policies, regulatory requirements and staff performance. Works with Clinical Engineering administration and facility administration in establishing goals, policies and staffing. All other duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications:Required:
- Minimum AAS degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology or equivalent work/military experience in Biomedical Engineering
- 7+ years of hands on experience
- 2+ years of supervisory/management/leadership experience
- Knows how to use biomedical/electronic test equipment
- Knows principles and function of electricity/electronics
- Knows how to use MS Office and other computer applications
- Knows various types of medical equipment and medical terminology
- Knowledge of healthcare regulatory bodies and standards (Joint Commission, CMS, FDA, DOH & Others)
- BS preferred in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology or equivalent work/military experience in Biomedical Engineering
- Knowledge of computers and networks
- Undergraduate accounting course
- AAMI/ICC certification
- Attended management/leadership seminars, training or conferences
- Project management experience
- Resource and Staff Development/Supervision
- Supervises all technical staff to promote a high level of efficiencies and technical support within the Biomedical Engineering Department at a local facility as follows:
- Manages On-Call Schedules for all qualified technical staff.
- Conducts disciplinary action and correction as required.
- Assigns incoming service requests as necessary prioritizing those that are of an emergent nature.
- Assists technical staff in the daily upkeep of supplies, parts, and repairs to minimize equipment downtime and shortages.
- Manages staffing levels so there is no interruption in support.
- Performs/oversees new employee orientation education and coordinates cross-training activities to maintain a high level of technical skills.
- Assures that annual competencies and annual employee performance evaluations are current and completed on time
- Maintains Regulatory Compliance in accordance with MEMP
- Validates work is completed on-time and productivity remains high.
- Creates monthly schedule of medical equipment due for inspection.
- Manages inspection and PM activity balancing higher priority items with day-to-day operations.
- The Equipment Management Program is kept current and accurate for regulatory and service history purposes.
- Assures an accurate inventory of service literature to adequately support medical equipment
- Participates in safety rounding.
- Performance Improvement Measurements/Quality Control
- Monitors and reports preventive maintenance completion and inventory control reports. Incomplete work is followed up with all departments involved to find a resolution.
- Expected to be a member of at least 2 hospital wide committees.
- Provides a major role in the coordination of medical equipment safety notifications and recall alerts.
- Assists technical staff in conducting proper incident investigations to validate either an equipment or user failure.
- Works with hospital leadership looking at performance improvement items and data driven reporting for continuous quality improvement activities.
- Provides assistance to technical staff and validates the creating and entering of new preventive maintenance procedures with the understanding that the primary responsibility belongs with the biomedical staff.

- Maintains a positive working relationship to other departments by routinely interacting and collaborating with other departments within a facility.
