Exercise Physiologist - Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation

An exercise physiologist is responsible for assisting the Cardiopulmonary Rehab supervisor with ensuring day-to-day operations of the cardiopulmonary programs including cardiac rehab, pulmonary rehab, SETPAD rehab, and Healthy Steps. The exercise physiologist will assist with patient admissions into programs, developing of plans of care, providing safe and effective exercise instruction, interpreting telemetry strips, providing education, determining discharge from program, and program development.

Compensation:

• $25.25/hr + DOE

Responsibilities:

• Receives referrals for Cardiopulmonary Rehab patients, coordinates pre-authorization, assures appropriate documentation of qualifying event.
• Schedules and performs patient assessments and develops the individualized treatment plans for patients.
• Assess patients pre, during and post excersise. Conducts supervised exercise sessions for patients, monitoring participants for inappropriate responses to exercise.
• Responsible for running telemetry and observations of telemetry responses.
• Documents exercise sessions of Cardiopulmonary patients in their records.
• Develops and coordinates patient education programs for the purpose of behavior modification and risk factor reduction.
• Reports any new changes in the patients condition to the cardiopulmonary rehab supervisor, primary provider, hospitalist and/or Medical Director.
• Ensures safety of patients at all times.
• Monitors program paticipants and reports inappropriate responses to prescribed exercise. Adds or eliminates exercise as needed.
• Immediately notify the hospitalist if a patient’s condition deteriorates and requires hospitalization.
• Initiates BLS and/or ACLS measures, as needed.
• Assists with directing Exercise assistants
• Maintain therapeutic and uplifting environment with upbeat attitude
• Input appropriate charges.
• Completes other tasks assigned by Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Supervisor.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Contributes to the team to offer treatment strategies to provide positive outcomes for patients and the Cardiac Rehab program.
• Effectively applies knowledge of exercise science to a population with cardiovascular disease and other potential co-morbidites.
• Uses the patients individual care plan to guide advancing the exercise rate and/or duration.
• Maintain up to date knowledge of regulations as related to Cardiac Rehabilitation. ???????

Qualifications (Required):

• Clinical Exercise Physiologist, OR
• Bachelor’s of Science or greater in Exercise Science or related field
• Current BLS (able to acquire within 6 months of hire)
• Able to read, interpret, and analyze EKGs & abnormal arrhythmias on telemetry.

Additional Desirable

Qualifications:

• Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Self-motivated
• Current ACLS certification
• Minimum of 1 year clinical experience in a Cardiopulmonary Rehab setting.
• Desire to work within a comprehensive health care team.
