Job Summary
Job Summary - The Financial Counselor is responsible for front end communication with patients and their families, hospital personnel, and medical staff with regard to the patient’s cost of services, insurance coverage and/or individual responsibility for payment of services. Ensures all insurance requirements are met prior to patients' arrival and informs patients of their financial liability prior to arrival for services.
Arranges payment options with the patients. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide clinical expertise in the Revenue Cycle. This position must be able to read and understand documentation in the patient’s medical record. This position will be expected to understand billing and compliance regulations and will expand that knowledge through continuing education. This position is an important part of providing excellent and expert customer services for Livingston Health Care’s patients, patient families, and coworkers.
$2,500.00 Sign-On-Bonus

- Answer customer service phone line as part of the ACD team.
- Coordinate with departments to receive notification of patient services scheduled as quickly and as efficiently as possible.
- Obtain insurance benefits coverage and pre-authorization for services scheduled, if applicable.
- Prepare pricing estimate for expected services based on approved LHC methods.
- Communicate with patient via established methods the expectations of LHC business services.
- Interpret and explain to patients and their families expected charges, services, and hospital policy regarding payment of bills.
- Secure information related to patients’ financial status, and determine payment dates and rates based on patient’s ability to pay and hospital policies.
- Review hospital registration information to ensure financial and demographic data and documentation have been obtained and properly entered into the hospital records.
- Advise patients or guarantors of third-party payer benefits and estimated private payer amounts.
- Counsel patients requiring internal and/or external financial assistance, including recommending third parties.
- Collect partial payment before admission in accordance with hospital policy.
- Communicate and interface with hospital personnel, medical staff, patients and family members to ensure high-quality patient care and excellence in customer service.

- High School Diploma or GED
- Two years customer service, business office experience, and credit and collection experience.
- Minimum of two years computer experience which includes Microsoft Word, Excel or similar programs
- Demonstrated ability to be accurate and attentive to detail
- Mature personality, sense of responsibility, and integrity.
- Excellent organizational skills and time management skills.
- Analytical and decision making skills.
- Ability to multi task and maintain a flexible daily work schedule.
