R1 - Registered Dental Nurse

NHS Lothian Oral Health Service is pleased to invite applications for a full‑time, fixed‑term position as a Registered Dental Nurse. This one‑year post is based within the Edinburgh Dental Institute and the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People, serving across the Pan‑Lothian region.

Applicants must hold current registration with the General Dental Council (GDC) and be able to provide their registration number upon application, plus have a UK recognised dental nursing qualification.

We are looking for a confident, enthusiastic team player with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.

• Provide efficient and effective support to the dental team within the Oral Health Service.
• Participate in public holiday shifts to support unscheduled care services, compensated through an enhanced remuneration agreement, in line with Agenda for Change.
• Maintain a PVG Scheme membership/record; if not a current PVG member, apply to Disclosure Scotland and obtain satisfactory result before commencing.

This post requires a PVG Scheme membership/record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post. Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check than is currently the case.

If the post is assessed as a “regulated role”, your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.
