Job Description & How to Apply Below

Clio is the global leader in legal AI technology, empowering legal professionals and law firms of every size to work smarter, faster, and more securely.

Manager, Systems Engineering

This is a remote role based in the United Kingdom, with occasional in‑person collaboration in Manchester. The role focuses on the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of Clio’s AWS infrastructure.

What your team does

The Systems Engineering Team builds and operates the cloud infrastructure and internal developer tools that power Clio products globally. We ensure our systems are reliable, secure, and scalable, enabling engineering teams to ship software quickly and confidently.

Who you are

You’re an engineering leader with deep Azure experience, a passion for operational excellence, and a strong focus on reliability. You embrace SRE principles: reducing toil, automating manual tasks, managing service‑level objectives (SLOs), and improving system observability. You are comfortable mentoring engineers, engaging in technical discussions, and balancing strategic vision with day‑to‑day operational needs.

What you’ll work on
  • Define and maintain service‑level objectives (SLOs) and error budgets for production systems.
  • Ensure systems are highly reliable, scalable, and secure, following cloud and SRE best practices.
  • Partner with Development, Security, and Product Engineering teams to align infrastructure initiatives with Clio’s strategic roadmap.
  • Oversee incident response processes, post‑mortems, and continual improvements to reduce recurrence and mitigate risk.
  • Drive automation and tooling to reduce manual toil across Azure environments and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and observability standards for production and pre‑production environments.
  • Support CI/CD and developer productivity initiatives to improve the local development and deployment experience.
  • Promote a culture of blameless post‑mortems, knowledge sharing, and proactive risk management.
What you may have
  • Proven experience leading platform, SRE, or systems engineering teams.
  • Deep knowledge of Azure architecture, services, and IaC (Terraform preferred).
  • Experience defining and tracking SLOs, SLIs, and error budgets.
  • Growth mindset when it comes to process improvement and new technologies, especially AI.
  • Knowledge of incident management and post‑mortem culture in SRE environments.
  • Hands‑on experience with CI/CD systems (Buildkite, Git Hub Actions, Azure Dev Ops).
  • Strong understanding of Kubernetes, containerization, and distributed system operations.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, ELK).
  • Solid software development skills (Python, Go, Ruby, or Bash).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
Serious bonus points if you have
  • Experience managing multi‑region Azure environments at scale.
  • Familiarity with service ownership models and on‑call rotation practices.
  • Experience with cost optimization and Fin Ops principles in cloud environments.
  • Previous hands‑on experience implementing runbooks, automation frameworks, and self‑healing systems.
