We are seeking an experienced Senior SEND Caseworker to join a local authority SEND service on an interim basis. The post holder will manage a complex caseload of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) while also providing professional oversight, guidance and support to SEND Caseworkers to ensure statutory compliance and high-quality practice across the service.
Key Responsibilities- Manage a complex and high-priority caseload of EHCPs in line with statutory requirements
- Lead on new EHC needs assessments, including complex cases and tribunal-related work
- Oversee and quality assure annual reviews and EHCP amendments
- Draft, review and sign off high-quality, legally compliant EHCPs
- Provide practice guidance, mentoring and case oversight to SEND Caseworkers
- Support the resolution of complaints, mediations and SEND Tribunal matters
- Act as a key point of contact for parents/carers, schools and partner agencies in complex cases
- Ensure statutory timescales and service performance targets are met
- Contribute to service improvement, audits and policy development
- Maintain accurate case records and contribute to reporting requirements
- Significant experience working as a SEND Caseworker or Senior SEND Caseworker within a local authority
- In-depth knowledge of SEND legislation, including the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice
- Proven experience managing complex EHCP cases and providing case oversight
- Strong EHCP drafting and quality assurance skills
- Excellent communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work autonomously while supporting and guiding others
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing demands
