Research Scientist
Position Summary
Full‑time, fixed‑term appointment for 1 year in the Parish Lab, Department of Tropical Disease Biology, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. The lab focuses on antimicrobial drug discovery targeting Mycobacterium tuberculosis. We are seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to evaluate novel anti‑tubercular agents, investigate mechanisms of action, and determine mechanisms of resistance.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct primary research and run microbiological and cellular assays to profile compound activity.
- Investigate mechanisms of action of novel anti‑tubercular agents using microbiological and molecular techniques.
- Determine mechanisms of resistance to novel agents.
- Plan, design, and execute research projects, including experimental procedures, data analysis, and interpretation.
- Maintain accurate experimental records in electronic laboratory notebooks.
- Write standard protocols and validation data packages.
- Prepare manuscripts, technical reports, and assist with new funding proposals.
- Present findings at internal meetings, conferences, and workshops.
- Mentor and train junior researchers, PhD students, technicians, and lab visitors.
- Ensure laboratory safety and compliance with institutional and regulatory protocols, including risk assessments, biosafety, and chemical safety.
- PhD in a relevant biological discipline (e.g., microbiology, infectious diseases, drug discovery, molecular biology, biochemistry).
- Experience in basic microbiological techniques.
- Familiarity with microbiology concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Computer literacy, including MS Office and literature searches.
- Experience in data handling, manuscript writing, and protocol development.
- Experience working under Containment Level 3 conditions (desirable).
- Experience with robotics and liquid handling systems (desirable).
