Job Summary
Registered Nurse – General Surgery (Band 5, Permanent, Full Time – 37.5 hours/week)
Ward 15, 24 beds, at Liverpool University Foundation Hospitals NHS Trust, Aintree Site. We are looking for caring, compassionate individuals who are passionate about providing the highest standards of care to patients. You will work as part of an experienced, supportive multi‑disciplinary team and receive full support to integrate into our team.

Main duties of the job- Participate in maintaining a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for all patients and carers and maintain highest standards of nursing care.
- Determine nursing priorities and plan patient care; inform the nurse in charge when changes in circumstances may affect patient care.
- Maintain nursing records in accordance with the NMC standards and Trust guidelines.
- Maintain and improve quality of patient care through contribution to the development of Essence of Care and clinical benchmarking within the unit.
- Ensure due regard is given to customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients.
- Provide information and support to patients/carers, ensuring all involved in the care are aware of changes in the patient's condition.
- Assist in the safe custody, checking and administration of drugs.
- Develop clinical knowledge and skills to care for acutely ill patients admitted via both planned and unplanned routes.
- Undertake expanded practice, under supervision, to optimise patient care and in accordance with ward/department and Trust policies.
- Involve patients and carers in the planning and delivery of care.
- Ensure effective lines of communication within the ward/department multidisciplinary team.
- Ensure all equipment is checked and maintained in safe working order.
- Manage allocated workload and provide supervision of less experienced staff.
- Practice and promote safe and efficient use of all resources.
- Report all incidents, accidents and complaints to the unit manager and complete Trust incident forms in accordance with risk‑management policies.
- Ensure compliance with Trust policies and procedures.
- Maintain own standards in relation to clinical governance.
- Provide leadership in monitoring standards of care.
- Act as shift coordinator in rotation with other nurses in the team.
- Provide cover for and undertake duties of absent colleagues as required.
- Follow all policies and procedures of the organisation.
- Registered Nurse, current NMC registration.
- BSc in Nursing (Diploma in Nursing as a minimum).
- Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor Training.
- Post‑registration qualification in relevant specialty.
- Recent clinical nursing experience as a student or as a registered nurse.
- Experience with in a relevant clinical setting.
- Evidence of maintaining a clinical learning environment.
- Evidence of working with learners.
- Sound clinical nursing knowledge and a good understanding of nursing issues and clinical governance.
- Demonstrates awareness of own limitations.
- Ability to organise workload and delegate tasks appropriately.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to support less experienced staff.
- Ability to problem‑solve.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic IT skills, including e‑mail and word processing.
- Supportive of colleagues.
