An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Sustainability Team at Merseyside Police
. We are looking for a motivated and forward‑thinking individual with experience embedding sustainability practices in the workplace and/or a minimum of A Levels (or equivalent) in a relevant subject.

You will join a passionate and growing team comprised of a Sustainability Manager
, Sustainability Monitoring Officer
, and Sustainability Promotion & Reporting Officer
—working together to drive our commitment to environmental responsibility, community wellbeing, and regional prosperity.
The Sustainability Promotion & Reporting Officer plays a key role in supporting the development, implementation, monitoring and communication of the:
- Merseyside Police Sustainability Policy
- Sustainability Strategy
- Net Zero Strategy
While the post covers the full spectrum of sustainability, the primary focus is environmental sustainability
, including reducing carbon emissions, improving circular‑economy approaches to procurement, and supporting contract management in areas such as waste, renewables and water.
You will report to the Force Sustainability Monitoring Officer
.
✔️ Support effective management of Force waste, recycling and confidential waste contracts, ensuring legal compliance and identifying sustainable and efficient reuse, recycling or disposal routes.
✔️ Organise and maintain the collection and monitoring of utility, waste and renewable‑energy data, using software and staff inputs.
✔️ Support the analysis of half‑hourly gas and electricity consumption to identify efficiency improvements and inform capital project development.
✔️ Assist in producing quarterly utility forecasting reports, including consumption and financial projections for all sites.
✔️ Develop and deliver the Force Sustainability Communications Plan
, including Force‑wide staff engagement campaigns, awareness materials and behaviour‑change initiatives.
✔️ Manage the Force’s furniture and white‑goods reuse and recycling scheme, including day‑to‑day Warpit administration, staff liaison and furniture movement logistics.
✔️ Work flexibly across office and site‑based activity—therefore applicants must have reasonable physical fitness and hold a full driving licence

We welcome applicants who have:
🔹 Experience embedding sustainability practices and/or
🔹 A Levels (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (e.g., environmental studies, geography, sustainability, science, business)
You’ll be passionate about sustainable improvement, data‑driven decision making, and engaging others to make meaningful change.
