Responsibilities

  • Support the Programme Manager in delivering operational and administrative services for specified specialities.
  • Manage administration and screening teams, including recruitment, sickness management, staff appraisals, and day‑to‑day operations.
  • Monitor national and local Key Performance Indicators and ensure adherence to operational processes and plans.
  • Arrange and chair regular team meetings, ensuring agreed actions are completed.
  • Deputise for the Programme Manager as required.
  • Collaborate with other specialities and Care Groups to deliver cross‑cutting initiatives and contribute to the CIP target.
  • Escalate risks appropriately and ensure screening standards and KPI’s are met.
  • Provide on‑hand support to staff, answering queries and addressing operational issues.
  • Use data and information to inform decisions and meet tight timescales.
Qualifications
  • Degree level or equivalent experience.
  • Line management or business qualification or equivalent.
  • Recent demonstrable experience of operational management, with responsibility for supporting delivery including clinical quality, people management, budget understanding and successful performance targets.
  • Experience of staff management including recruitment, sickness management and delivering staff appraisals.
  • Understanding and appreciation of diversity.
  • Knowledge of NHS access targets.
Desirable skills and experience
  • Awareness of key issues and pace of change facing the NHS, and ability to assess impact on services.
  • Knowledge of computerised financial, management, budgetary and workforce information systems.
  • Knowledge of governance arrangements and standards in the NHS.
  • Excellent communication skills, including mediation, negotiation and training.
  • Problem‑solving using a solution‑focused approach with persuasive and influencing skills.
  • Coaching and values‑led management style that encourages engagement and empowerment.
  • Proficiency in using data and information to prepare responses within tight timescales.
  • Ability to support business planning processes on behalf of the speciality/specialities.
  • Monitoring of activity plans to meet performance targets within tight financial controls.
  • Monitoring agreed policy on behalf of the speciality/specialities.
  • IT literate and able to use standard office software and bespoke systems.
  • Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions and stressful, unpredictable situations.

Applicants must be 18 years or older, or within 3 months of their 18th birthday. The role does not offer visa sponsorship for Band 2/3 positions with a salary below £25,000; applicants need to meet the person specification to be considered for interview.
