Salary: £25,000 – £27,000 (depending on experience and qualifications)
About the Role
We’re representing a well-established and growing accountancy firm based in Liverpool, known for delivering high-quality outsourced payroll and bookkeeping services to a diverse client base. Due to continued growth, they are seeking a Payroll Assistant to support the delivery of accurate and compliant payroll services across multiple clients. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with bureau payroll experience to join a collaborative team and develop their career in payroll and outsourcing.
Key Responsibilities
* Process weekly and monthly payrolls for a portfolio of multi-sector clients
* Maintain and update payroll records including starters, leavers, and contractual changes
* Calculate statutory payments including SSP, SMP, SPP, holiday pay and pension contributions
* Submit RTI filings to HMRC and ensure PAYE/NIC compliance
* Prepare and issue payslips, P45s, P60s and other payroll documentation
* Respond to client and internal payroll queries in a professional and timely manner
* Support auto-enrolment and pension administration
* Assist the Payroll Manager with reporting, compliance and ad hoc projects
* Contribute to year-end payroll processes and deadline management
* Carry out general administrative and bookkeeping support where required
Ideal Candidate Profile
* 1–2 years’ experience in a payroll bureau or multi-client payroll environment
* Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and statutory requirements
* Experience using payroll software such as Bright Pay
* Proficient in Microsoft Excel
* Excellent attention to detail and high levels of accuracy
* Strong organisational and time management skills
* Professional, client-focused communication skills
* Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
* Discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive information
