Overview

Deputy Ward Manager role at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The closing date is 09 February 2026. This is a very exciting opportunity for a Deputy Ward Manager to join the team on a busy 29 bedded General Medicine Ward. We are looking for a dynamic, highly motivated and enthusiastic person to join our multidisciplinary team, providing high quality nursing care within this busy ward.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, teamwork and a dedication to improving the patient experience. You will need to demonstrate continuing professional development and a strong commitment to develop others and work closely within a multidisciplinary team. Applicants must be able to evidence or demonstrate experience of working as a Band 5 or previous experience as a Band 6 within Medicine.

You will be required to demonstrate significant Band 5 leadership experience. We are looking for individuals with leadership potential with effective communication skills and able to demonstrate a proactive, collaborative and innovative approach to the clinical environment and passionate about excellence in patient care. Informal visits are encouraged.

Job responsibilities

You will support the ward manager to lead, provide and supervise a very high standard of compassionate care to our patients. You will support the safety and quality agenda of patient care and staff management, ensuring that the values and objectives of the Trust are met, whilst improving patient outcomes.

You will support the journey of the patient from admission to discharge, identify risk and formulate actions to reduce this risk and ensure patient throughput is effective.

You will display excellent leadership and effective communication skills and be able to demonstrate a proactive, collaborative and innovative approach to the clinical environment and be passionate about excellence in patient care.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse, current NMC registration
  • Teaching and assessing qualification or equivalent
Experience
  • Evidence of management experience
  • Evidence of change management
  • Application of evidence based practice
  • Evidence of developing high standards of patient care
  • Lead role in education of staff and patients
Knowledge
  • Application of current nursing issues and healthcare governance
