Research Assistant Band 3 Job overviewThe NIHR Liverpool Clinical Research Unit (CRU) is a Phase 1 accredited unit, the first NHS trust in England and Wales to achieve this standard. The unit undertakes and delivers early phase clinical trials (drug development studies) in patients and healthy volunteers. It is of critical importance that the unit is able to operationalize these studies while ensuring subject safety is prioritised at all times.
The post holder will provide comprehensive support to the research team. They will be expected to perform a variety of clinical, research and house keeping duties within a research environment. The post holder will work closely alongside the research nurse provide support with study set up and on‑going maintenance of documentation management for clinical trials. They will assist the research nurse with participant study visits and clinical trial procedures.

The post holder will work as an integral member of the research team, supporting the delivery of high‑quality clinical research within the unit. They will contribute to maintaining a clean, safe, well‑organised, and comfortable environment.
The post holder will be responsible for coordinating facility services within the unit, including cleaning, catering, and minor maintenance, ensuring these services meet required standards. Duties will also include supporting research activity through the preparation of clinical and research areas, assisting with participant visits, and undertaking specified research‑related tasks as delegated by the research nurse or nurse in charge to meet individual participant or patient needs in line with study protocols.
The role requires close collaboration with clinical teams, research staff, and support service departments to ensure smooth day‑to‑day operations. The post holder will monitor quality standards across facilities and research support activities, report any deficiencies, and take appropriate action within their scope of practice.
Additional responsibilities include maintaining adequate stock levels of clinical and research supplies, ensuring equipment is appropriately maintained and within service dates, and supporting compliance with infection control, health and safety, and governance requirements across the unit.
