Overview

Respiratory Ward 6C is recruiting a Band 2 Health Care Assistant to support registered nursing teams in delivering care to complex respiratory patients. The role involves personal care, hygiene, nutrition, mobility and infection prevention.

• Assist patients with personal hygiene and grooming, including catheter bag emptying.
• Support toileting, incontinence management and privacy.
• Measure fluid intake and output, record on fluid balance charts.
• Prepare and serve patient meals, assist with feeding.
• Maintain patient dietary intake records.
• Carry out safe patient movement and handling within manual handling plan.
• Enable patient mobility using exercise and mobility appliances.
• Prevent pressure sore development as directed by registered nurse.
• Collect specimens for ward or laboratory testing.
• Escort patients to clinical departments.
• Assist registered nurse with last offices.
• Report observations to registered nursing staff.
• Initiate Basic Life Support techniques as appropriate.
• Support patient care respecting customs, values and spiritual beliefs.
• Support effective communication with patients and families.
• Support bed making and cleaning, prepare new admissions.
• Collect and dispose clinical waste and sharps safely.
• Assist with clerical duties and reception as required.

Previous experience working in a health care environment is essential. Respiratory experience is desirable. Excellent communication skills and IT skills required.

Band 2 salary £22,383 – £23,615.
