This is a unique and high-profile opportunity to provide strategic leadership for the multi-million-pound medicines value and optimisation agenda. You will be accountable for the development and delivery of a complex programme that drives system-wide transformation in prescribing and medicines use.
Strategic Leadership- Strategic Leadership:
Set the strategic direction for the medicines value programme across UHLG and the ICB for the next 2-5 years. - Financial Stewardship:
Lead the system-wide forecasting, modelling, and reporting of medicines expenditure and savings, ensuring alignment with ICB and NHS England financial plans. - Team & System Leadership:
Line manage and professionally lead the dedicated Medicines Value Team (including pharmacists, technicians, and analysts), while also mentoring and coaching colleagues across the region. - System Influence & Representation:
Represent UHLG at ICB, regional, and national strategic forums (including NHS England), influencing the medicines value and commissioning agenda. - Clinical Service:
Maintain and provide a highly specialist clinical pharmacy service to a named clinical specialty, acting as an expert source of medicines advice. - Service Development & Innovation:
Drive innovation and develop business plans to advance pharmacy services, with a particular emphasis on delivering the medicines value objectives of the Trust's pharmacy strategy.

Key responsibilities- Driving the Medicines Value Agenda:
Lead, develop, and promote a culture of medicines value, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, evidence-based service that aligns with the Trust’s pharmacy strategy. - Financial Management & Reporting:
Be the system owner for complex medicines value databases and financial tracking tools. You will ensure the accurate and timely provision of financial data, monitor high-cost drug usage, and lead cost-reduction initiatives without compromising service quality. - People Management:
Provide direct line management for the Medicines Value Team, overseeing recruitment, appraisals, performance, and professional development. You will act as a mentor and role model for staff at all levels. - Strategic Collaboration & Policy:
Collaborate with senior ICB colleagues to lead the High‑Cost Drugs working group and influence regional and national policy. You will be the trusted expert presenting the Medicines Value programme to senior stakeholders. - Education, Training & Development:
Ensure your team and wider pharmacy colleagues have the appropriate training to deliver the service. You will act as a tutor and contribute to educational programmes for a multi‑disciplinary audience. - Clinical Governance & Quality:
Integrate clinical governance into all medicines value activities, conducting impact assessments for all initiatives to ensure patient safety and service quality are never compromised. - Expert Clinical Practice:
When working in your clinical specialty, you will provide a highly specialist clinical pharmacy service, including patient consultations, medicine reconciliation, and acting as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team.
