Applicants must have a minimum of three years’ experience in Recovery or a comparable setting, such as Intensive Care (ITU), to be considered for this position.
Aintree site has 20 operating theatres across four departments which cover a wide variety of surgical specialties. Liverpool University Foundation Hospital is part of the Major Trauma Centre Collaborative (MTCC), a partnership between Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust and is the regional Major Trauma Centre for the North West, providing the full range of services and clinical expertise for patients who are severely injured from all areas of the region.

- Main C Theatre, Recovery and Surgical Forward Wait are Elective Care Centre Theatres – consisting of 4 Theatres, 2 Treatment Rooms, Recovery, Day Ward and Surgical Forward Wait
The Recovery and Surgical Forward Wait department offers a dynamic, supportive environment with varied workloads, challenges, and development opportunities. We seek passionate practitioners committed to teaching, career progression, and delivering excellent patient care. Applicants must be flexible to workdays, weekends, bank holidays, and rotate across four recovery areas to meet service needs and gain essential skills.
Ideal candidates will have knowledge of theatre procedures, a professional portfolio demonstrating CPD, and experience in multi-professional working, mentorship, change implementation, and leadership. Key skills include shift coordination, delegation, rota planning, HR awareness, and implementing learning from incidents. Strong communication and motivational abilities are essential, along with resilience under pressure and prioritisation skills.
Applicants should demonstrate leadership, teamwork, HR and change management, clinical governance, and incident management knowledge. Desirable attributes include workforce planning awareness and understanding of NHS policy.
Additional requirements:
safeguarding knowledge, IT proficiency, ability to manage complex situations, and a flexible, proactive approach to role and shift patterns.
