Female Specialist Support Worker (36hrs per week, Driver Essential)
Join Alternative Futures Group as a Female Specialist Support Worker. Our goal is to provide a space that enables people to live as independently as possible while staying safe and connected to the heart of the local community.
Responsibilities- Support a young person with Autism who requires 24‑hour support and may exhibit challenging behaviours in a newly developed, state‑of‑the‑art home, fully tech‑equipped for their needs.
- Provide specialist care and support to deliver our vision of ‘a world where people control their lives’ in line with each individual’s personalised plan.
- Provide all health‑related and social support to people with diagnoses such as Learning Disability, Autism and Mental Health.
- Use appropriate techniques and strategies to support people who present with behaviours that challenge.
- Give safe medication and pain management in line with the medication care plan.
- Manage medical equipment and supplies, monitor depletion, re‑order timely to avoid shortages.
- Attend all mandatory and specialist clinical training sessions, face‑to‑face and online, to remain competent.
- Report and record incidents that cause or could cause harm in line with AFG policies and procedures.
- Support people to design, develop and own the support they receive, contributing to Personalised Planning.
- Help people make informed choices and increase independence, following the Mental Capacity Act principles when necessary.
- Support cultural beliefs, practices, and help people form and maintain relationships of their choice.
- Maintain homes/living environments and promote independence for the people we support.
- Encourage access to the community, enable positive risks, and ensure no abuse, neglect or ill‑treatment occurs.
- Respond to concerns and report via line management, On Call Manager, or Whistleblowing procedures as needed.
- Provide personalised support to people with complex care needs, including assistance with activities of daily living, medication administration and equipment management.
- Actively help people achieve outcomes as per their agreed Personalised Plan, ensuring safe and effective care.
- Support development of relationships identified in the Individual’s Personalised Plan and facilitate new relationships.
- Encourage informed choices around a healthy lifestyle, leisure, work, social, emotional and spiritual needs.
- Help connect people with their community in accordance with their wishes.
- Fully participate in training and development as per the Alternative Futures Group development programme and any external training required.
- Attend supervision sessions, performance reviews, and team meetings.
- Develop and share skills to improve support provision.
– Essential Criteria
- Evidence of embracing, demonstrating and applying AFG’s values.
- Ability to support people in ways consistent with their rights, choices and responsibilities.
- Positive attitude towards people with complex physical, learning disabilities and/or mental health problems.
- Sympathetic, emotional and practical support skills.
- Ability to help others make informed choices within daily life.
- Good verbal communication skills and sensitive listening ability.
- Written English skills for accurate record keeping.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a Health & Social Care paid or unpaid role.
- Willingness to attend all clinical mandatory and specialist training courses and events.
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, covering 24 hours/7 days.
- Night shifts are paid at £12.60 per hour.
