Medlock Partners are delighted to be partnering exclusively with a rapidly expanding Utilities business within the Merseyside area as they look to appoint an experienced Financial Controller in a newly created role.

Reporting to an experienced CFO and an impressive senior leadership team, the Finance Manager will take ownership of all day-to-day financial operations, ensuring robust financial control, insightful reporting, and strategic support as the business scales in the UK and Europe. You’ll work closely with the leadership team to professionalise processes, support funding activities, and prepare the business for further growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all aspects of the finance function, including management accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
• Ensure timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close.
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls, processes, and compliance frameworks.
• Oversee audit preparation, statutory accounts, and liaison with external auditors.

Business Partnering & Strategy

• Partner with the senior management team to provide commercial insight and support strategic decision‑making.
• Develop financial models to evaluate new markets, product lines, and investment opportunities.
• Support international expansion, including establishment of European entities, currency considerations, and cross‑border tax implications.
• Provide financial input to sustainability initiatives, funding proposals, and investor relations.

Leadership & Systems

• Manage a small but growing finance team
• Implement improvements in financial systems, processes, and reporting tools to support scaling operations.
• Drive automation and efficiency across finance workflows.

Candidate Profile

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Strong experience in an SME or mid‑sized growth business (ideally £10–50m turnover).
• Hands‑on and detail‑oriented, comfortable operating both strategically and operationally.
• Proven track record of improving processes and controls.
• Excellent communication and business partnering skills.
• Commercially astute, with the ability to interpret financial data and influence decision‑making.
• Passion for sustainability, renewables, or green tech.
